Bakewell Blanket

This is the second Bakewell Blanket that I've made so far and I must admit that I love everything about it. The pattern, the yarn, the finished blanket. Really just the whole process.

I made my first Bakewell blanket back in February. It was my holiday project and made using Scheepjes Whirl in the Sherbet Rainbow colourway, which I must admit looked spectacular. I gave that blanket to a very special little girl at the end of my holiday, but unfortunately didn't have time for photos.

This time I've used Scheepjes Whirl in the Blueberry Bambam colourway, which is also beautiful. This one was made for a very special little boy.

Aren't the diamonds with the little bobbles inside wonderful?

And it's so exciting waiting for that subtle colour change to come.

It's hard to believe that one ball of Swirl can make a perfect size blanket for a baby. It's so light and soft and squishy. Just perfect really.

I must admit that I found the pattern slightly unclear when it says to continue expanding the square. To the point where I felt I had to draw myself a quick chart and figure out the repeat pattern. Although by the time I was halfway through I found I didn't need it anymore.

All in all this is a great pattern, makes a lovely blanket and uses an amazing yarn. It definitely makes a great gift for Queensland bubs no matter what time of the year they are born.

  1. Hi I am having trouble with row 15. I was wondering if you might be able to help me out. I found the instructions for row 9-14 but now am not sure what happens next. Can you help. I am not familiar with the chart idea so this has not been helping. Thank you.

    1. Hi.... I just did round 15... if you look at the chart that's been done above there is some writing along the right hand side . The 4th line is your instructions for round 15, it's the round before the next bobble round.
So you chain 3,skip a stitch, make 11 trebles (dc in USA terms), chain 1, skip a stitch, make 3 trebles, chain 1, skip a stitch, make 11 trebles then corner (11 trebles here include the two trebles made at the corner then two chain and the next two trenles in the corner count to the 11 treble on the next side as you turn the corner) Chain 1, three treble, chain 1, 11 treble and so on.
Continue using the written instructions in the right margin on chart above as your guide.

  2. Thank you so much for your help. I can't tell you how many times I have taken this out and put it back in. Now for the next row.

  3. Hi Julie
I love this pattern too, and have made a few blankets with it now. I found it confusing too, and have re-worked the pattern to climb out in the corners. you may be interested- although your chart is quite helpful too. https://onemadtatter.wordpress.com/2022/01/01/happy-new-year-2022/
