Granny square & pom pom baby blanket

This sweet little baby blanket is finally finished and ready to go to its new home.

I've been crocheting for a couple of years, but have never made a large, single square granny blanket until now.
I've really enjoyed the simplicity of this project.
The granny square is often the first pattern that we learn as a beginner to this art. Everyone who crochets can make a granny square. It's so simple yet so versatile and every granny square blanket is unique.

It's one of the few times where colour choice trumps the stitch pattern.
In fact the overall feel and design of the granny square blanket relies upon the colour yarns we choose and the order that we use them in.
Another thing that makes each granny square blanket different is how we choose to edge them. It's quite difficult choosing a border that will stand out and not just blend in with the rest of the blanket.

I think these pom poms make a very successful border.

One that I'm sure I'll use time and time again.

I'm also loving the colour changes.

This is the book that inspired this blanket. It's full of absolutely wonderful designs.
